GREAT WEEKEND FOR GORDEY

It was a good weekend for Grande Peace Athletic Club teams and players and sitting at the top of the heap after the first weekend of play in October was Jaydon Gordey of the Peaceland Directional Drilling Midget AA Storm.

Gordey had seven goals in two games on the weekend.

He netted five in a 6-2 win over the Whitecourt Wolverines at home on Saturday and then followed that up with a pair on the road in Fort St. John against the NEBC Yukon Trackers.

Gordey leads the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League in scoring with 11 goals and two assists in just four games.

Tyler Buchberger had the other goal on Saturday while Tyler Burwash made 19 saves in net for GP. On Sunday, Ben Schmidt, Mason Kyllo and Spencer Lloyd also pitched in with goals while Owen Taylor was in net for PDD making 34 stops.

Peaceland sits in third place in the North Division with two wins, a loss and a tie. They host the Fort McMurray Barons on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Centre.

Zac Shantz of the Golden Arrow Bantam AAA Storm also had a memorable weekend in two games on the road.

He netted a pair of goals in a 4-4 tie with Edmonton CAC on Saturday and then followed that up with three more goals on Sunday in a 5-3 GA win over the Sherwood Park Flyers.

Shantz leads the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points after just six games.

Wes Golden and Spencer Rheaume also scored on Saturday while Nathan Crawley made 30 stops in net. On Sunday Rheaume pitched in again with a goal while Hayden Schultz got the other one. Vaugh Kaliel was in goal for that game making 27 stops.

GA is now sitting in second place in the Charger North Division with two wins, a loss and three ties.

They host the Okotoks Oilers twice this weekend with games Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Clairmont Crosslink County Sportsplex.

The Ernie’s Sports Experts Storm had a good start to their season on the weekend on the road and sit atop the Dodge Division of the Alberta Midget Hockey League after a pair of wins.

Ty Toews, Nolan Flint, Dayne Tews and Tye Evans each had a goal and McCoy Bidwell made 25 stops in a 4-3 win over the Red Deer Chiefs on Saturday.

On Sunday, Flint had two and Jayden Watson a single and Terris Lappenbush made 32 saves in a 3-2 win over the Leduc Oil Kings.

On Saturday, in the Coke Can, the ESE team hosts the Edmonton K of C Pats.

The Boston Pizza Storm had a tough weekend losing at home twice to the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers - 4-2 Saturday and 7-1 on Sunday.

Jordan Marusiak and Sam Antonio scored and Tyer Georgeson made 30 saves on Saturday while Sunday Olen Nordhagen got the goal and Conner Stojan made 31 stops.

The BP team is 0-3-1 in 10th place in the North Division of the Albert Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

On Saturday they host the Oil Kings at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Coke Can.

The Dreger Racing Team Storm of the Edmonton Rural Alberta Midget AA Hockey League were in tough against the Whitecourt Wolverines at home losing 7-2 on Saturday. Luke Scheck and Zayn Knezevich got the goals and Keagin Kelln was in net for DRT.

They travel to Fort McMurray for a pair of games this coming weekend.

The other GPAC team in that league, the Higson Dental Storm, host the Peace River Sabres at 7:30 p.m. in Clairmont on Friday and then the Lakeland Panthers at 4:30 p.m. in the Coke Can on Saturday.

GPAC’s newest team, the Access Dental Storm, play their first-ever Rural &  Edmonton Midget 15AA Hockey League games on the road this weekend - Saturday at the Central Panthers and then Sunday at the Red Deer Chiefs.
