It's an important day of hockey for several Grande Peace Athletic Club teams.
One team is a win away from advancing to the next round; another is a loss away from ending their season; and a third will either advance to the championship round or be relegated to the consolation round.
A win over the Fort McMurray Barons (11 a.m. Sunday) would give the Dreger Racing Team Storm the Black Division championship and advancement against the White Division champions in the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA League playoffs.
Dreger advance to the final after finishing with a 3-0 record in round-robin Black Division playoff in Fort McMurray.
DRT started the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Barons on Thursday on goals by Trey Stephenson, Deizel Leet and Jett Fogle. Ethan Baron made 24 saves.
On Friday DRT downed the Peace River Sabres 3-2 with Olen Nordstrom getting two and Carter Kreller a single. Baron had to make just 10 saves.
A 6-1 win over the GPAC Hitch 'Em Oilfield Hauling Storm on Saturday advanced DRT to the division championship. Fogle had two and Kreller, Evan Wagner, Ethan Taylor and Ryan Germaine singles in that game. Derek Sparks made 11 saves for the win. The lone Hitch 'Em goal came from Daimen Switzer while Brennan Horcoff and Nathan Crawley combined to make 32 saves.
In their first game Thursday Hitch 'Em fell 7-2 to the Sabres with Adam Morrow and Jaxon Boucher scoring and Crawley tested 57 times.
On Friday Fort Mac downed Hitch 'Em 6-4 with Boucher, Brandon Longphee, Devon Barclay and Nicholas Bacon scoring and Crawley making 41 saves.
The Lloydminster Blazers play the Wainwright Polar Kings in the White Division finale today.
It's also a big day for the GPAC Ernie's Sports Experts Storm in an Alberta Midget Hockey League best-of-five Dodge Division semi-final.
ESE finds themselves down 2-0 in the series against the Fort Saskatchewan Rangerswith Game 3 in Fort Sask this afternoon.
Game 4 in that series, if needed, would be in the Coca-Cola Centre in Grande Prairie on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
A 3-2 win over the Fort Saskatchewan Traders today would give the GPAC Boston Pizza Storm eighth place in the North Division standings and a berth in the division championship play. A loss would relegate them to the consolation playoffs.
The good news is a victory would give them 25 points, one more than Edmonton CAC and eighth place. The bad news is they play the top team in the division - the PAC Saints.
A tie would mean digging into the league rules to determine eighth and ninth.
Boston Pizza put themselves into a position to go top-eight with a 3-2 win over the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers on Saturday. Chase Jonzon, Joseph Gerwatoski and Tye Evans had the goals while Terris Lappenbush made 40 saves for the win.
The GPAC Peaceland Directional Drilling Storm will be playing in a division tournament in Whitecourt next weekend.
They wrap up their regular season today with a game against the Wolverines in Whitecourt.
On Saturday PDD played to a 2-2 tie with the PAC Saints. Isaac Wagner had two and Tanner Davy a single in that game while Lee Lappenbush made 25 saves.
The GPAC Bantam AAA Storm missed the playoffs this year.
