SECOND WIN FOR BANTAMS

Jan. 28, 2019

They aren't going to make the playoffs and, in fact, even if they win all of their remaining games they aren't going to hit double digits in the win column this season.

At this point the goal for the Grande Peace Athletic Club Bantam AAA Storm is to no doubt finish up the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League regular season on a positive note. That might not necessarily mean winning, but at the least leaving it all on the ice while trying to win.

Sunday was a good start towards the end of the season.

The Storm, backstopped by goaltender Connor Stojan and his 36 saves, downed Edmonton CAC 3-2 at the Crosslink County Sportsplex in Clairmont.

It was just their second win of the season and first since Oct. 13 against the Airdrie Extreme.

Stojan, 14, has made almost 600 saves (596) while winning two, losing 11 and tying one so far this season. The Charles Spencer High School Student has an .865 save percentage and 940 minutes of playing time.

The Storm took period leads of 1-0 and 2-0 and got goals from Simon Hamilton, Rhys Doyle and Tyson Buchan.

On Saturday CAC downed the Storm by the same 3-2 score.

Evyn Hansen and Buchan had the goals in that game while Vaughn Kaliel was in net making 44 saves.

They'll be looking to double their win total with a pair of games against the Leduc Oil Kings this weekend. Games go Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. in Clairmont.

The Storm sit fifth in the Charger North Division with six points.

The GPAC Ernie's Sports Exports Storm split a pair of Alberta Midget Hockey League games on the road on the weekend.

Saturday the ESE fell 7-4 to Edmonton CAC and Sunday they downed Edmonton K of C Pats 5-2.

Hudson Foley, Kail Magnusson, Justin Becher and Nolan Flink scored on Saturday and Cam Beson made 30 saves while on Sunday Jayden Watson had two and Sheldon Kwiatkowski, Edge Lambert and Becher scored and Beson made 42 saves.

The ESE club sits in fourth place in the Dodge Division with 30 points. They host the Calgary Flames at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Coke Can in their only weekend game.

The PAC Saints visited the Boston Pizza U16 Storm twice on the weekend . . . and left with four points.

They downed BP 4-3 on Saturday and 4-1 on Sunday.

Ethan Boutcher, Chase Jonzon and Jayden Gordey scored on Saturday and Terris Lappenbush made 44 saves while Sunday Landon Hedges had the lone goal and Lappenbush made 39 stops.

BP is in eighth place in the North Division of the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League with 15 points.

They play Edmonton SSAC on Saturday and St. Albert Flyer Sunday on the road this weekend.

In Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League play the GPAC Peaceland Directional Drilling Storm were also on the road falling 7-3 to the Sherwood Park Oilers on Saturday and downed the Beaumont Braves 3-1 Sunday.

Brett Friesen, Spencer Lloyd and Keaton Mercredi scored and Rylan Labrie made 25 saves on Saturday. No details were available from the Sunday game.

BP is third in the Bouchier Division with 21 points.

They have a lone game this weekend - Sunday at 12:30 a.m. in Clairmont against the Leduc Roughnecks.

There are two GPAC teams in the Edmonton Rural Alberta Bantam Hockey League - Dreger Racing Team and Hitch 'Em OIlfield Hauling. They both played the Sturgeon Sting in Clairmont on the weekend.

Dreger stung the Sting 5-3 on Saturday.

Brody West had two goals and Carter Buss, Hayden Schultz and Deizel Leet singles and Derek Sparks made 43 saves. Spencer Rheaume had three assists.

Dreger is third in the Black Division with 29 points and host the Fort McMurray Barons Saturday at 6:15 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. in Clairmont.

Hitch 'Em fell 6-3 to the Sting on Sunday.

Devon Brodey had two goals and Cade Reber a single while Nathan Crawley made 44 saves for Hitch 'Em. Next game for Hitch 'Em, who are fifth in the Black Division with seven points,  is Tuesday against the Canucks in Dawson Creek.
