BIG POINT PLAYER

Jan. 21, 2019

At 5-foot-4 and 114 pounds Spencer Rheaume is one of the smaller players in the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League.

His scoring prowess, however, is making some big noise for the GPAC Dreger Racing Team Storm.

Rheaume added five more points to his total on the weekend including a goal and two helpers in a 5-3 loss to the Lakeland Panthers on Saturday and a goal and an assist on Sunday in a 5-2 win over the Lloydminster Blazers. Both games were on the road.

The 13-year-old Beaverlodge St. Mary's Student now has 13 goals and 15 assists in 24 games and leads his team in scoring and is in a tie for 16th overall in the ERBAAHL.

Brody West and  Deizel Leet also scored for Dreger on Friday while Derek Sparks made 33 saves in the GP net.

On Sunday, Carter Kreller had two goals while Rheaume, Hayden Schultz and Olen Nordhagen netted singles. Ethan Barron made 26 saves while backstopping DRT to the win.

Dreger sits third in the Black Division and hosts the Sturgeon Sting at 7 p.m. in the Dave Barr Arena on Saturday.

The other GPAC team in the ERBAAHL, the Hitch 'Em Oilfield Storm, fell 4-1 to the Peace River Sabres on Sunday.

Devon Barcley got the goal and Nathan Crawley made 48 saves for the Storm, who sit fourth in the Black Division with seven points. Friday Hitch 'Em visits the Dawson Creek Canucks and Sunday host the Sting at 10 a.m. in Dave Barr.

The GPAC Boston Pizza U16 Storm battled to a 3-3 draw with CAC in Edmonton on Saturday.

Chase Jonzon had two goals and Ethan Aebly a single while Terris Lappenbush made 32 saves to preserve the point.

GPAC Boston Pizza is eighth in the North Division of the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League with 15 points. They host the PAC Saints Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Crosslink County Sportsplex in Clairmont.

The GPAC Peaceland Directional Drilling Storm rolled to two 4-1 wins on the weekend - Friday in Peace River against the Royals and Saturday at home against the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers.

On Friday, Jacksyn Clark, Carter Berg, Tanner Vinck and Brody Thomson got the goals and Lee Lappenbush the win in net while on Saturday Thomson, Vinck, Keaton Mercredi and Brett Friesen scored and Lappenbush made 36 saves. Tanner Davy had four assists for PDD.

Peaceland sits in third place in the Bouchier Division of the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League with 21 points. They are on the road at the Oilers in Sherwood Park on Saturday and then visit the Braves in Beaumont on Sunday.

Both the Ernie's Sports Experts Midget AAA Storm and Golden Arrow Bus Bantam AAA Storm were idle on the weekend.

The midgets are in Edmonton to play CAC  and K of C while the bantams host Edmonton CAC Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Sportsplex.
