GORDEY LEADS BP INTO BIG WEEKEND

Nov. 16, 2018

The quote on Jaydon Gordey's bio says: "Today I will do what others won't, so tomorrow I can do what others can't".

It appears Gordey is doing what others won't - or maybe can't - as his Grande Peace Athletic Club Boston Pizza U16 Storm head into their 13th and 14th games of the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League schedule at the Crosslinks County Sportsplex in Clairmont.

The diminutive BP forward, just 5-foot-4 and 130 pounds, leads the team in scoring and sits 15th overall in the league with seven goals and 11 assists in 12 games.

His team is going to need Gordey, and more, because they host the North Division-leading Leduc Oil Kings in those two games - 7 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday

The Oil Kings come into the game as the top scoring team (59 goals) in the league. Ryan Chambers is the league's top scorer with 15 goals and teammate Blake Roche leads in points with 27 on eight goals and a league-leading 19 helpers.

BP, with four wins and two ties in 12 games, sits seventh in the North Division with 10 points - 11 behind the division-leading Oil Kings, who have a 10-2-1 record.

The U16 tilts are two of eight home games involving GPAC teams.

Ernie's Sports Experts Storm, in second place in the Dodge Division of the Alberta Midget Hockey League, host the Calgary Buffalos on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the Red Deer Chiefs at 3 p.m. Sunday at Crosslinks.

Action for GPAC  teams kicks off Friday when the Hitch 'em Oilfield Hauling Storm host the Peace River Sabres at 7:30 p.m. in Clairmont. Hitch 'em then hosts the Camrose Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Saturday at Dave Barr Arena.

The Dreger Racing Team Storm play in the same league and host the same Camrose team on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Clairmont. DRT is third in the Black Division with eight points.

The other GPAC team in action this weekend is the Peaceland Direction Drilling Storm of the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.

Peaceland, in fifth place in the Bouchier Division with three points, play the Wolverines in Whitecourt on Saturday and then host NEBC Trackers at 1:30 p.m. Sunday,
