ERNIE'S HAS AN EDGE

The Grande Peace Athletic Ernie's Sports Expert's Midget AAA Storm had an "Edge" on the weekend and that was an important factor in a pair of wins at the Crosslink Country Sportsplex in Clairmont.

"Edge" in the form of 17-year-old forward Edge Lambert.

The six-foot, 195 pound Charles Spencer High School student scored twice in a 3-2 win over the Edmonton SSAC Athletics on Saturday and then had three helpers as the Ernie's team downed the Edmonton Optimists 5-3 on Sunday.

Lambert, who says his goals is to play in the NHL one day, now sits ninth overall in Alberta Midget Hockey League action with 13 goals and five helpers in 14 games.

More importantly, his team is second in the Dodge Division of the AMHL with 17 points after 14 games on eight wins, five losses and a tie.

In the first game ESE led 2-1 after the first and second periods and also got a goal off the stick of Justin Becher. McCoy Bidewell got the start in goal and made 31 saves.

On Sunday, Kaden Reinders, who went into the game with on goal in league play, led the way with three goals while Dayne Tews and Clay Brown had singles. Cam Beson made 32 stops for the win.

ESE led 2-0 after the first and went into the third with a slim 3-2 edge.

The GPAC Golden Arrow Bantam AAA Storm played a pair at the Sportsplex on the weekend - with different results than the Midget AAA team.

Saturday the Spruce Grove Saints downed GA in a close one 3-2 and then doubled the GPAC club 6-3 on Sunday.

Rhys Doyle and Jaxson Walker scored for GP on Saturday while Connor Stojan made 33 saves in a game that saw GP trail just 2-1 after one and 2-1 after two.

On Sunday Evyn Hansen, Lucas Schuett and Trayton Banner scored and Vaugh Kaliel made 17 saves.

Golden Arrow is fifth in the Dodge Division of the Alberta Bantam Hockey League with a win, 12 losses and a tie.

The Boston Pizza U16 Storm also played a pair at home on the weekend losing 5-3 to the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers on Saturday and tying the same team 3-3 on Sunday.

Ethan Boutcher, Denon Bamber and Rye Evans scored in the first game while Eric Schultz made 31 saves. On Sunday Jayden Gordey had a pair and Evans one while Terris Lappenbush stopped 31.

BP is in seventh in the North Division of the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League with four wins, six losses and two ties.

It was a long trip to Fort McMurray for the Peaceland Directional Drilling Midget AA Storm . . . and no doubt a longer trip home after a pair of losses.

Saturday the hometown Barons downed PDD 5-1 and Sunday then topped the GPAC club 5-2.

Brody Thomson got the goal and Rylan Labrie was called on to make 59 saves on Saturday while on Sunday Jack Clark and Rylan Kleist scored and affiliate netminder Tyler Burwash was peppered with 56 shots.

Peaceland is fifth in the Bouchier Division of the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League with three points on a win and a tie in 10 games.

The weekend of GPAC action started on Friday when the Dreger Racing Team Storm romped to a 10-2 win over the Dawson Creek Canucks.

Olen Nordhagen and Jett Fogle had two goals each while single goals came off the sticks of Spencer Rheaume, Evan Wagner, Carter Buss, Brenden Wabiek, Deizel Leet and Joel West. Trey Stephenson had three assists while Ethan Barron was called on to make 21 saves.

Dreger is fourth in the Black Division of the Edmonton Rural Bantam Hockey League with four wins and five losses in nine games.

The other GPAC team in the ERBHL is the Hitch 'Em Oilfield Hauling Storm. They were in Lloydminster and Lakeland on the weekend, but no scores were available.
