It’s a day chock full of fun and activities . . . and just to make it even better five hockey games involving six Grande Peace Athletic Club teams.
The Second Annual GPAC Day is planned for Saturday at the Crosslink County Sportsplex in Clairmont.
The games start at 11:30 a.m. when the GPAC Dreger Racing Team Storm take on the GPAC Hitch ‘Em Oilfield Hauling Storm.
And this isn’t just another Bantam AA hockey game.
It’s the Belt Buckle Challenge between the two Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League teams with GPAC bragging rights, as well as the buckle, up for grabs.
Both sponsors are chuckwagon drivers - Dean Dreger of the Western Chuckwagon Association is backing the Dreger Racing Team and Mitch Sutherland of the World Professional Chuckwagon Association is behind Hitch ‘Em Oilfield Hauling.
And they will both have their wagons and tarps at the rink to up the gamesmanship.
Next up, at 2 p.m., the GPAC Ernie’s Sports Experts Midget AAA Storm will look to continue their roll in the Alberta Midget Hockey League when they host the Airdrie Xtreme.
They have won five of their last six games to move into second place in their division.
At 4:30 p.m. the GPAC Bantam AAA will be looking to get back on track in the Alberta Bantam Hockey League when they host Sherwood Park.
At 5 p.m. on the other twin rink, the GPAC Boston Pizza U16 Storm, after a weekend off, will be looking to shake the rust off when they host Edmonton SSAC in Alberta Minor Midget AAA League Play.
The day of games wraps up at 7 p.m. when the GPAC Peaceland Directional Drilling Storm host St. Albert in Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League action.
And it’s not just going to be fun for the players.
There will be three bouncy castles set up in the Crosslink field house and no charge for children who would like to enjoy.
There is also a silent auction tables including items like Oilers tickets and a signed Leon Draisaitl jersey. There will be a progressive 50/50 held over the course of all five games and there will be honorary minor hockey captains for each home team at the event.
Minor hockey players who attend with their team will all receive free tickets to an upcoming Grande Prairie Storm Junior A game and one of those teams will get a practice with a GPAC team and a free pizza party.
There is no admission charge for the day.
