MIDGET AAA TEAM WINS PAIR

Oct. 22, 2018

When you score seven goals and seven different players do the scoring and you get two wins from two different goalies, chances are you have some balance on your team.

That was the case for the Grande Peace Athletic Club Ernie’s Sports Experts Midget AAA Storm on the weekend in Alberta Midget Hockey League play at home against the Okotoks Oilers.

On Saturday Sheldon Kwiatkowski, Hudson Foley, Jayden Watson and Devin Aubin had the goals and Cameron Beson made 28 saves to help Ernie’s to a 4-2 win.

On Sunday, in a 3-1 win, Justin Becher, Kail Magnusson and Nolan Flint did the scoring and McCoy Bidewell made 26 saves to sweep the Oilers.

The Ernie’s team now sits in second place in the Dodge Division of the AMHL with five wins, two losses and a tie for 11 points.

In the Alberta Bantam AAA Hockey League, the GPAC Golden Arrow Storm were on the road and . . . not so much luck.

On Saturday they fell 4-3 to the Spruce Grove Saints with Jason Walker, Carter Hensch and Simon Hamilton doing the scoring and Connor Stojan handling the netminding with 26 saves.

Sunday the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers took no prisoners in a 9-2 win over the Storm. Evyn Hansen and Sam Antonio did the GP scoring and Stojan was peppered with 60 shots.

The Golden Arrow team sits fifth in the Charger Division of the ABHL with a win and seven losses.

The GPAC Peaceland Directional Drilling Storm, of the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League, split in games on the weekend.

On Saturday they fell 5-2 to Edmonton CAC. Nathan Derksen and Isaac Wagner had the goals and Rylan Labrie stopped 32 shots in that game.

On Sunday, Lee Lappenbush was perfect on 21 shots to earn the shutout in a 3-0 win over the Edmonton KC Colts. Tanner Davy, Caile Menard and Derksen found the back of the net in that game.

The PDD club is in fifth place in the Bouchier Division of the NAMAAHL with a win, five losses and a tie.

The Fort McMurray Barons were not kind to the GPAC Hitch ‘Em Oilfield Storm in a pair of home games in Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League play.

Saturday the Barons rolled to an 8-4 win and Sunday it was 3-1 for the oilsands city team.

Nicholas Bacon had two and Patrick Green and Devin Johnson singles on Saturday while Brennan Horcoff and Nathan Crawley shared netminding duties making 40 saves.

On Sunday Adam Morrow had the lone GP goal and Crawley stopped 31 shots.

Hitch ‘Em sits in fifth place in the Black Division of the ERBAAHL with no wins, four losses and a tie.

The GPAC Dreger Racing Team Storm also play in the ERBAAHL and fell twice to the Peace River Sabres on the weekend.

Friday at home Dreger fell 9-5 with Brody West, Ryan St. Germaine, Kyle Maloney, Spencer Rheaume and Deizel Lett getting the goals and Derek Sparks and Ethan Barron sharing the netminding making 41 saves.

On Sunday in the home of 12 Foot Davis, Rheaume got the goal and Barron made 46 saves.

Dreger is third in the Black Division with a win and four losses.

All of the GPAC teams are at home this weekend for GPAC Day on Saturday in the Crosslink County Sportsplex in Clairmont.
